See The Vision

God Is Faithful

God always finishes what He starts. We, on the other hand, do not always finish what we start. Our lives are often filled with loose ends: home improvement projects begun but not finished, books partially read, promises made but not kept, good intentions expressed but not followed through on.
In the sport of soccer the difference between winning or losing a match is, of course, scoring, often referred to in the sport as finishing. One team can completely outplay another team as far as possessions, passing, shots on goal, turnovers, etc. but the team that finishes more wins. The same is true in other sports just as the Green Bay Packers experienced in the NFC Championship game. They thought they had it won just like the Seattle Seahawks did in the Super Bowl's closing minutes last weekend, but they didn't finish. Often our lives are like that as we leave so many things unfinished.
God isn't like that because He is faithful. He always finishes what He starts. Philippians 1:6 is our theme verse for this week's sermon and our key verse for this entire Capital Fund Campaign that we are kicking off this weekend, "Faithful to the Vision." It reads: "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." This means that God is faithful to finish the work of the gospel He has started in this world, in the church, and in our lives.
Please be sure to be with us in worship this week as we look back over our church's nearly 121 year history and see the faithfulness of God. A work that God will one day complete, when Jesus returns, but as of now is still ongoing! By your presence in our church you are an ongoing part of this gospel work that our "Faithful God" is up to. I look forward to your participation in worship this weekend as we learn about our role in being "Faithful to the Vision" of God's work here at Mission Covenant Church.

In Christ's Love,

Pastor Darrell L. Nelson
